Aggreko lands peak shaving contract in the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia
- 100 MW of power to be supplied immediately to overcome
seasonal power shortages.
Dubai, June 2009- Aggreko, the
global leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature
control services has signed a contract to provide 100 MW of
temporary power to the Saudi Electric Company (SEC) to help
overcome seasonal power shortages in the Kingdom. The
contract is expected to last for a minimum of 3 months.
The Middle East experiences extreme
temperature spikes during the summer when mid-day temperatures in
Saudi Arabia can exceed 50 ºC. Power demand from domestic and
industrial users surges as they seek additional cooling from their
air conditioning and temperature control systems.
Aggreko were able to respond
quickly to the clients request to survey the sites and design an
appropriate solution. The power will be supplied at a total
of 6 sites in the Qassim region, north of the Saudi capital Riyadh,
with 80 MW being supplied at 13.8 kV and 20 MW being supplied at 33
kV to suit the requirements of the local substations.
Commenting on the contract Rupert
Soames, CEO Aggreko, stated: ”The award of this contract clearly
demonstrates our ability to respond quickly to our customers needs
for reliable temporary power in very short timescales. We were able
to propose an appropriate solution for our client within just a few
days and we will be supplying power to the people of Saudi Arabia
within 4 to 5 weeks. Our flexible and modular systems allow
us to meet the exact needs of our customers in the shortest
possible timeframes. Aggreko has been providing temporary
power in Saudi Arabia for many years now and I am delighted that
once again we could be of service”.
