Aggreko Shoots a Perfect Round at the 2006 PGA
Championship
Customer challenge
The US PGA is a massive, high-profile
golfing event. At the 2006 tournament, as many as 30,000
spectators attended the practice rounds alone, with approximately
45,000 attending each day during the competition.
Ensuring that spectators, event planners,
vendors and players all had the power, cooling and lighting they
needed during this midsummer event demanded intensive
behind-the-scenes collaboration.
Among the 2006 event’s biggest challenges was
maintaining 24-hour lighting for maintenance crews and cooling the
31,200 square foot merchandise tent. With merchandise moving out of
the tent every day, thousands of hot spectators cooling off from
100°F temperatures and 300 volunteers working inside the tent -
keeping the space cool was no simple matter.
To meet these requirements, the PGA turned to
the specialized team at Aggreko Event Services. Aggreko Event
Services (AES) supports a wide range of PGA and other major
golfing events each year, including the Ryder Cup, US Open and
Byron Nelson tournaments.
Aggreko solution
This complex event required a broad range of
equipment and significant cooling resources:
- More than 2900 tons of cooling power
- Over 9500 kW of generators spread out
over the 120-acre golf course
- Forty light towers to provide 24-hour
coverage for night fueling and facilities maintenance
AES started planning for the event in March
with personnel onsite beginning in June. AES committed months of
onsite pre-work, 11 days of 24-hour runtime and nearly three weeks
of teardown for this large-scale event. Start to finish, the highly
experienced Aggreko team was recognized by the PGA planners and
vendors for their professionalism and get it done
attitude.
