Corporatión Chilene del Cobre (CODELCO), the world's largest copper producer, needed a power supply for the construction and development of the 'Gaby' copper mine in Northern Chile.
Located in the Atacama desert, 2,700 metres above sea level and 100 times more arid than California's Death Valley, it was crucial that the 'Gaby' mine and it's 4,000 workers had a reliable power supply. CODELCO required a power partner, familiar with working within mining regulatory requirements, who could effectively deliver in one of the most inhospitable environments in the world.
Within ten days of receiving the letter of intent, Aggreko supplied power to the site through small generators distributed around the mine. A 5 MW main power package, comprising of generators, a transformer, bulk fuel tanks and a control room office followed soon after to provide the total power requirement. Aggreko adapted to the specific needs of the project by providing a trailer mounted 1,000 litre fuel tank as part of the fuel storage and delivery system complying fully with all the health and safety regulations. Aggreko's technicians provided 24-hour onsite operation and maintenance service to ensure seamless power was available for the mine's continuous operations.
Aggreko's experience of supplying power in remote and harsh environments is unrivalled in the industry. The ability to tailor a solution to the clients requirements with a turn-key approach was essential for the operations at Gaby Mine. The reliability of Aggreko's in-house designed equipment and highly skilled engineers gave CODELCO confidence when choosing their power supplier.
