Aggreko Drives Power and Cooling for 2013 PGA Championship

HOUSTON, USA – Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power generation and temperature control solutions, is providing large-scale power generation and climate control for the 2013 PGA Championship, taking place August 5-11 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY.

The Aggreko event team designed a power and cooling solution that will allow more than 35,000 golf fans to enjoy the event in safety and comfort, without detracting from the beauty of the surroundings. With more than 200 tented venues, from the merchandise tent to the corporate chalets, the design took into account the various sizes of temporary facilities needing temporary power generation and climate control spread throughout the course.

The specialized equipment to be used at the event was built specifically for golf tournaments and large-scale spectator events such as the PGA Championship, Ryder Cup and U.S. Open.  It includes quiet, uninterruptible TwinPack generators - which provide cleaner, quieter and more convenient temporary power than other commonly used generator sets - and custom-built tent air conditioners.

Powering an event of this magnitude requires tons of Aggreko equipment and manpower, including:

  • 8200 kW of power generators
  • 2,360 tons of cooling equipment
  • Approximately 34 miles of cable
  • A crew of 15 Aggreko technicians for installation and operation

“Aggreko is proud to be the exclusive supplier of temporary power and cooling systems for the PGA Championship,” said Todd Fasano, Event Services Project Manager, Aggreko North America.  “It is a pleasure to work with the PGA Championship for the 7th time to deliver a flawless, custom installation of temporary power and cooling systems for a spectacular event watched the world over.”
