Aggreko Powers the Bahrain Grand Prix
Bahrain (April, 2009) – Aggreko,
the global leader in the provision of temporary power and
temperature control services, has won the contract for the supply
of a 6 MW / 11kV temporary power station at the Bahrain
International Circuit, host of the fourth round of the 2009 World
Championship. This package will provide prime power for the entire
circuit facility including the main medical centre, workshop and
audio requirements. An additional 12 MW power package installed
around the circuit will be used for the vending area, the medical
centre and the international broadcast centre.
With millions of viewers in over 130 countries watching each
race, an uninterrupted power supply for continuous broadcasting is
critical. In separate contracts with Bahrain Radio and Television
and the race organisers, Aggreko is supplying power for all
broadcasting facilities at the Bahrain circuit.
The Bahrain International Circuit, a $US185 million facility
which held its inaugural race in 2004, consists of six individual
tracks, five star corporate facilities, an eight-storey VIP viewing
tower, an international broadcast and media centre for 500
journalists, and five grandstands with a total capacity of 50,000
spectators. Aggreko has provided power for every Grand Prix held in
Bahrain to date. Aggreko also recently supplied broadcast power at
the first round of the championship, held in Melbourne.
Phil Burns, Director, Aggreko Middle East, said, “The ability to
provide an uninterrupted power supply that enables live coverage
for millions of viewers worldwide is extremely rewarding. Aggreko
has a tremendous track record of providing power services for
global sporting events including the forthcoming 2010 Olympics in
Vancouver. Our experience of designing and managing projects such
as these makes Aggreko the natural choice for event
organisers.”
Aggreko is the leader in power rental for
the events industry and has provided turn-key power packages
for the Olympic Games in Beijing Atlanta, Salt Lake
City, Sydney and Turin, as well as other major sporting
events such as the Football, Rugby and Cricket World Cups,
many golf championships and the Dubai Rugby Sevens.
