Education and literacy campaigns have been ongoing in Venezuela
for years and literacy rates are steadily improving, having reached
93% in 2007 according to The Human Development Index. However,
computers and internet access are still considered luxury items,
and much of the population does not have regular access to
computers. The computers donated by Aggreko will be available for
the use of students in the computer room of a San Fernando school
to be designed by the local governor’s office.
Diogenes Neto, Aggreko Area Director, South America, said:
“Aggreko has been providing power to San Fernando for the past four
years and 90% of our staff have been hired locally, making us a
part of the community. As such, we are excited to be a part of the
governor’s initiative to improve access to technology for students,
and we hope to continue to be involved in similar projects in the
future.”
Aggreko’s extensive experience in providing temporary power
generation and temperature control has led to Aggreko providing
over 65 MW of power to support various industries in Venezuela. As
Venezuela is highly reliant on hydropower for its utility grid, the
country is particularly susceptible to power outages due to the
rapid growth and industrialization of the economy. In cooperation
with Venezuelan government, Aggreko has been supplementing the
country’s utility grid since 2004. Aggreko's team provides 24/7
service support to ensure stability and reliability of power and is
committed to working with the government to reduce the instances of
power shortages and power outages.
