Aggreko Powers up Rock in Rio 2013

26th August 2013, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Designing power and temperature control solutions for major events requires a significant amount of pre-planning.  After a successful delivery of service for the 2011 edition, which saw Aggreko provide reliable power and cooling solutions for an event that included international names such as Guns N 'Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Coldplay, Metallica and Sepultura, event organisers were keen to invovle Aggreko for the 2013 edition.

Rock in Rio is the world´s biggest music and entertainment festival. In almost 30 years, it has gained great prominence in the music scene around the world, with 12 editions held in Brazil (1985, 1991, 2001 and 2011), Portugal (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012) and Spain (2008, 2010 and 2012), attracting nearly 6,511,300 viewers. During the 2013 edition, the fifth in Brazil, Aggreko will be responsible for providing temporary power and cooling services to the event, ensuring that Rock in Rio runs without interruption.

Aggreko will be the official partner for one of the biggest events in Brazil. For the second consecutive edition, Aggreko will be the official supplier of power and cooling solutions of Rock in Rio 2013, which will take place over the weekends of 13-15th and 19-22th September, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Aggreko will be providing a total of more than 12 MW for the duration of the event.  A team of highly experienced experts will manage the mobilisation, installation and running of the equipment, which will be used for stage production, lighting, food and beverage areas and security amongst other needs. Installation was completed a month in advance of the event, to account for the necessary testing required at major events.

Commenting on the project, Pablo Varela, General Manager of Aggreko Brazil, reinforced that to be part of the Rock in Rio festival for the second consecutive edition consolidates Aggreko as a reliable and experienced supplier for major sporting and cultural events in Brazil and worldwide. "Undoubtedly, it is a great responsibility to provide power and cooling solutions to Rock in Rio, considering the magnitude and visibility that the festival has gained around the world. In an event like this, there is no room for error and the performances which are widely broadcast should run smoothly. Considering that, having highly qualified and reliable suppliers is critical to the success of the event. We are confident that Rock in Rio 2013 will be every bit as successful as the 2011 edition we provided our solutions to, much as the successful execution of other high profile events in Brazil such as Rio+20, Skol Sensation and Soccerex.”
