4 June 2013: HOUSTON TX, USA – Aggreko, the world leader in rental power and temperature control solutions, is providing power generation and climate control for this year's U.S. Open Championship, which will run June 13 - 16. This is the thirteenth time Aggreko has been selected as the temporary utility provider of the tournament, which is hosted this year by the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
Aggreko designed a power and cooling solution that will enable the sold-out crowd to enjoy the tournament in safety and comfort, without detracting from the beauty of the surroundings. The supplied equipment was customized specifically for golf tournaments and large-scale spectator events. It includes quiet, uninterruptible TwinPack generators - which provide cleaner, quieter and more convenient temporary power than other commonly used generator sets - and custom-built tent air conditioners.
The project is unique in that it will be spread out over two golf courses, private residences and the athletic compound at Haverford College. Aggreko’s design and logistics teams took account of the various sizes of temporary and permanent facilities to be installed throughout the grounds, including the Trophy Club and merchandise tent at 24,000 sq ft each. Powering an event of this magnitude requires tons of Aggreko equipment and manpower, including:
- 50 miles of cable to distribute power and cooling to more than 300 venues
- Enough power generation for 14,000 average-size homes
- 3,500 tons of water-chilling and air-conditioning equipment
- A crew of 15 Aggreko technicians for installation and operation
In addition to expanding its personnel and rental fleet, Aggreko will provide customers with remote monitoring capabilities to improve its ability to troubleshoot any operational issue and optimize operating efficiency. The local service team will be supported by Aggreko’s North American network of rental facilities, equipment and technical experts which spans over 50 locations.
“It’s a pleasure to be able to work with the USGA for the thirteenth time,” said David Prince, Senior Events Project Manager, Aggreko North America. “Each project we design is unique, and Aggreko’s dedicated events team has developed a custom temporary power and cooling installation to ensure the comfort of all participants attending this spectacular event.”
Aggreko North America has a long history of providing power to high-profile events, including presidential inaugurations, several national sporting events, and the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.
