Aggreko Wins 90MW contract for temporary power in Angola

capital, Luanda
· Aggreko to supply 90MW at 15kV to support the utility grid
· Aggreko’s solution will ensure uninterrupted power for the
city’s residents and industry
Aggreko plc, the world leader in
the provision of temporary power and temperature control solutions,
has won a significant contract with Empresa Nacional de
Electricidade (ENE) to supply Luanda with 90MW of temporary power
to help sustain the rapid economic growth of the Angolan
economy.
The 90MW will be in addition to the
60 MW already installed in Luanda and in Cabinda; as part of the
new contract, the arrangements for the existing Luanda site are to
be extended for a further year. The contract will provide enough
power for up to 4 million people.
Equipment for the contract will be
installed in phases, with the initial 30MW due to be commissioned
in December 2007 and the balance to be delivered in 2008. The
overall value of the contract will be $45 million in 2008.
Aggreko’s International Power
division now supplies electricity to 19 African nations as
governments and utilities in the region increasingly turn to the
company to support their strong economic growth as they develop
more permanent sources of power.
"Due to the reviving economy in
Angola and the exceptional demand for power in Luanda, we have
taken measures to install additional temporary power in Luanda. We
have chosen Aggreko to supply an additional 90MW of temporary power
because of their faultless performance in executing their existing
30MW power station in Cezenga, Luanda. The existing project in
Cezenga will be increased to 60MW and the balance of 60MW will be
installed on two new sites" said Eduardo Gomes Nelumba, Chairman of
the Board of ENE.
Rupert Soames, Chief Executive of
Aggreko, said: ”We are delighted to have been chosen once again by
ENE to help them support the development of the Angolan economy. We
have worked closely with them over the past two years to improve
the power supply in Luanda, and this has clearly been a
success”.
As part of Aggreko’s commitment to
support local communities, the company will continue to train local
mechanical and electrical engineers to maintain and operate the
equipment. The company’s on-site service and maintenance crews will
be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure the
equipment always operates at peak performance and delivers
uninterrupted power.
