New manufacturing facility to help Aggreko meet increasing
power needs in the Middle East
28 July 2010, Dubai, UAE - Rising demand for
power generation across the Middle East has contributed to the
decision made by Aggreko, the global leader in the provision of
temporary power and temperature control, to build a new GBP20
million (approximately USD30 million) manufacturing facility at
Lomondgate, UK. The new plant will design, develop and manufacture
power generators and temperature control equipment, a large
proportion of which will then be deployed to the Middle East. Over
the past year, over USD30 million worth of fleet has been moved to
the Middle East to meet demand, with 1,000 megawatts (MW) of its
equipment providing power across the region.
Phil Burns, Managing Director, Aggreko Middle East, said: “This
is a fantastic boost for our Middle East operation. By adding to
our fleet we will be better able to serve our customers and uphold
our reputation for rapid response. When we have equipment available
in the region, we can install a multi-megawatt power plant in just
a matter of weeks.”
Work on the company’s new facility was formally launched by
Chief Executive, Rupert Soames, and members of the Board of Aggreko
plc. Soames was joined at the site by John McFall, Chairman of the
Strathleven Regeneration Company (SRC), for a ground-breaking
ceremony at what will become a 170,000 sq ft factory. Aggreko
bought the 16-acre site from SRC earlier this year to replace
existing facilities, which are spread around the West of
Scotland.
Rupert Soames added: “This new facility is a vital project
for Aggreko, enabling us to meet our future manufacturing expansion
needs over the next 20 years. We expect building to start
later this year with the aim of having the plant in operation in
2012. Our roots are in Dumbarton and it means a great deal to us to
be able to remain where we have built up a world-leading design,
engineering and manufacturing skill base.”
Editor’s Notes
Aggreko plc is the world leader in the supply of temporary power
and temperature control solutions. Aggreko employs over 4,000
people operating from over 144 locations. In 2009 we served
customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately
£1.0bn (USD $1.6bn or Euros €1.1bn). Aggreko plc is listed on the
London Stock Exchange (AGK.L), is a member of the FTSE-100 index,
and is headquartered in Scotland. For more information, please

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to
customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or
indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power
to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power
supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or
providing a major sporting event with power and cooling
systems. We serve our customers either through our 144
service centre’s, which we call the Local Business, or globally
through our International Power Projects business.
In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our
revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it
for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and
maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which
also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power
producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our
customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the
electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment
specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton,
Scotland.
Recent customers include the Beijing 2008
Olympics, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics
and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK,
France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile,
Brazil and USA.
