Aggreko to Power the World Indoor Championships in
Athletics
Doha, Qatar,
2010 - Aggreko, the global leader in the provision of
temporary power and temperature control services, has been
confirmed as a National Supplier for the World Indoor Championships in
Athletics (Doha 2010).
Aggreko will be responsible for
powering lighting and broadcasting units during the event, which
takes place at the Aspire Dome from 12-14 March 2010. Aggreko has
already assisted the organisers by providing temporary power for
the rehearsal event which was held on 26 February 2010.
Mr. Abdulrahman Al Dossari, Doha 2010
Marketing Manager and Director of Marketing & Public Relations
at the Qatar Olympic Committee, said: "We are pleased to
confirm Aggreko as our latest National Supplier. The organising
committee will rely on the tremendous global experience of Aggreko,
which has managed the power needs for many major sporting events of
this calibre, to provide us with power solutions and the expertise
required to ensure broadcasters are able to deliver uninterrupted
live action from the Aspire Dome to the world".
Mr. Phil Burns, Managing Director,
Aggreko Middle East, said: "This is a significant contract win for
the company as it further positions Aggreko as a power expert for
the events industry. We look forward to working with the WIC
organising committee and being part of such a significant event in
the Middle East this year."
With no World Championships or Summer
Olympic Games this year, the three-day competition, which runs from
12-14 March 2010, will be the most sought-after athletics event of
the year.
Qatar is a familiar stop in the
itineraries of many athletes and has hosted IAAF championship
events since 1997, leading up to the Super Grand Prix held here in
2009, which will be replaced with the IAAF Diamond League meet in
Doha, being held just a few weeks after the 13th IAAF World Indoor
Championships. This makes the City of Doha the most significant
destination for athletes to set course for a highly packed
athletics season at IAAF events across the globe.
With millions of viewers in most
countries across the world watching, uninterrupted power
supply for continuous broadcasting is critical. Aggreko
has provided turn-key power packages for the Olympics in Beijing,
Atlanta and Sydney as well as the Winter Olympics at Salt Lake
City, Turin and most recently, Vancouver. The company has also
provided supplementary power to events such as Football, Rugby and
Cricket World Cups and in 2009 provided power solutions for Qatar's
National Day celebrations in Doha.
The IAAF World Indoor Championships
are also supported globally by Official IAAF Partners Adidas,
Samsung, Seiko, TDK, VTB, TBS and Official IAAF Suppliers Mondo.
The WIC Organising Committee in recent weeks has also confirmed
Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) and q.media Decaux as National
Partners, with Go Sport, Gulf Warehousing Company and Virgin
Megastores as National Suppliers.
