Dubai, UAE – Aggreko, the
global leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature
control services, supplied 6 MW of power to the Dubai Racing Club as the
first Dubai World Cup was held at the new Meydan course on
Saturday, March 27th.
Aggreko supplied power
for the opening ceremony of the famous World Cup, the climax of
Dubai’s racing calendar as well as for main stage and a complex
lighting rig to support performances from internationally acclaimed
artists Elton John and Santana. Aggreko also worked closely
with Dubai Electricity and Water
Authority (DEWA) to provide back up support during the event,
held at the world’s largest racecourse.
Meydan was constructed as
the new home of the prestigious World Cup and is expected to
attract the best thoroughbreds, owners and racing nobility from
around the world.
Phil Burns, Managing
Director, Aggreko Middle East, said: “The Dubai World Cup is one of
the most anticipated events of the year, and we are delighted to be
part of it. Meydan is without doubt a world-class venue, but the
event would not happen without a supply of efficient and reliable
power. With our successful track record of supplying power for
large scale events, from the Emirates Airlines Dubai Rugby Sevens
to the Olympic Games, we understand just how important a dependable
power supply is.”
Stewart Hudd, technical
director at Meydan’s events organisation company, M-is, said:
“Aggreko has a strong track record of experience in the provision
of power for large scale events and concerts, which was a major
deciding factor in the tender process. With this being the first
World Cup at Meydan, having a power supply in place that guaranteed
efficient power throughout the entire event helped us to ensure
that the experience surpassed all expectations and made for a
memorable weekend.”
