Arizona Copper Mine Case Study
Aggreko takes the heat off Arizona mining
company
The challenge for the customer
Electric motors driving fans at an
Arizona mine were performing poorly. An error had resulted in
too low a specification and consequent overheating. An
ambient
temperature, sometimes exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, was
compounding the problem. To replace the motors was very
expensive, and productivity at the mine needed to be
maintained.
Aggreko’s solution: industrial air-conditioners
Aggreko applied a combination of
experience and ingenuity to deliver a solution. Industrial
air-conditioners provided a constant source of chilled air
that was directed across the motor coils. This additional
cooling allowed the motors to perform better and the air blowers to
operate as intended.
The benefits to the customer
Thanks to Aggreko’s lateral
thinking and range of available plant the mine was able to continue
to operate uninterrupted. Production and output was increased
and the capital cost of replacing the electric motors was
avoided.
