Aggreko supplies temporary power at the 2008 Beijing
Olympics
The challenge for the customer
A highly reliable power supplier was required
to provide uninterrupted, seamless power for the
Beijing Olympic Games
2008. With Olympic venues spread out all through Beijing
and the surrounding country, the Beijing Olympic Committee needed
a supplier who could work together with the local utility
company. Vast amounts of power was required to support the
infrastructure and the opening and closing ceremonies.
Aggreko’s solution: power generator rental
Aggreko provided 130 MW of power to 37 venues
in three cities: Beijing, Qingdao and Hong Kong. This
included fully-redundant power supply for the IBC (International
Broadcast Center) which provided over 30 MW of un-interruptible
power to broadcast the opening ceremonies to over 496 million eager
viewers around the world.
- 130 MW power supplied
- 37 venues powered by Aggreko
- 307 generators
- 1573 distribution boards
- 407 kilometers of cabling
- 150 local staff recruited and trained
Commenting on the project, Xu Jian, Director of Construction and
Environment Department of BOCOG stated: "I am extremely
pleased with the level of cooperation and one team approach between
BOCOG, Beijing Power Corporation and Aggreko". Once again, Aggreko
has demonstrated its reputation of delivering what it said it would
do".
