Offshore vessel Case Study
Commissioning an offshore vessel’s power systems
The challenge to the customer
The China National
Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) undertook a joint venture with
Texaco and BP to develop the oil and gas reserves in
the BoHai Bay, northeast of China. As part of the project, a
floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), the
BoHai Century, was commissioned from the Dailan New Shipyard.
The commissioning procedure for the FPSO required the provision
of a substantial, high-voltage loadbank package to test the BoHai
Century’s power generation system to
internationally accepted DNV standards. A flexible loadbank package
was required to allow the turbine generators to be tested in
different combinations. In addition, accurate data-logging services
were required to document the system’s performance under all test
conditions.
Aggreko's solution: loadbank package
Aggreko supplied and operated a 10 MVA resistive loadbank
package together with high-voltage transformers and ancillary
equipment to conduct the test at 10.5kV.
The benefits to the customer
The data-logging system provided accurate load-test conditions
and monitoring. Aggreko onsite engineers conducted each test to the
customer’s satisfaction. “We were very impressed with Aggreko’s
equipment and the cooperation of their onsite engineer,” stated Mr.
Yao DeBin, Deputy General Project Manager.
