Baseload Power for Cement Plant Overhaul
The challenge to the customer
When the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN), a division
of Heidelberg Cement had scheduled an overhaul programme at their
Sokoto Cement Plant, located in
a remote part of North-West Nigeria, a temporary power
plant was needed to provide a stable power supply for the
overhaul work at the plant as well as provide power to help
increase production capacity.
Aggreko's solution: temporary power plant
Aggreko delivered, installed and operated a 9MW / 6.6kV temporary power plant, which was synchronised
with the cement plants’ existing medium speed heavy fuel oil power
unit.
Benefits to the customer
A turnkey power plant was supplied comprising of generators,
transformers, fuel tanks, a control room and ancillary equipment.
The equipment was transported by sea from Dubai, UAE to Port
Harcourt in Nigeria, and then some 1,200 miles inland by road
through Abuja to Sokoto.
In addition to the power package, Aggreko provided full
operational and maintenance responsibilities throughout the
duration of the contract.
