World Ski Champ Case Study
Aggreko Creates Milestones at World Ski Championships
The challenge to the customer
With the extreme cold temperatures, power
equipment required special fuel and required daily checking to
ensure continuous operation. The challenge this event posed began
nine months prior to the event itself when Aggreko’s technicians
and engineers began the planning and coordination that would lead
to a seamless operation.
Aggreko's solution: power equipment rental
A total of 290 tons of power equipment was sent
to St. Moritz, including 44,000 kg (97,003 lbs) of cable that was
carried and installed by the Aggreko team after clearing 91 cm (3
ft) of snow and 20.32 cm (8 in) of ice. The Aggreko crew worked 12
straight days to lay the cable at an altitude of 2,438 m (8,000 ft)
with temperatures reaching below -20°c (-4°F), an extraordinary
feat with only seven hours of light each day. Aggreko powered all
broadcasting, the IBC, the International Press Center, the Medals
Plaza, the food court, VIP and volunteer tents, the team service
centre and the Opening Ceremonies.
Benefits to the customer
Operating at temperatures often reaching below -23°C (-9°F), the
Aggreko team and equipment allowed the rest of the world to
continuously view and enjoy one of the greatest sporting events in
history.
