Aggreko supplies power to the Northern Region of Cameroon
Aggreko has brought online a new power plant to provide reliable power to the Large North of Cameroon.
Eneo Cameroon ordered the new plant in Maroua, where Aggreko guarantees to deliver 10 MW of power to the Cameroon Northern Interconnected Grid (NIG). The UK-based power company has hired and trained 15 new permanent and temporary local employees to work on the project.
“The power we produce in Maroua will positively impact the population of the whole far north region of Cameroon,” said Aggreko’s Managing Director, Africa, James Shepherd.
The growing population in the Adamaoua and north regions requires reliable power for households and public buildings and the commissioning of this new plant will help to stabilise the power grids in these areas.
“The new plant will bring economic, social and security benefits to the region. We are proud to have been chosen to deliver this project for Eneo. We have vast experience in Africa and an ability to deliver power to remote areas in short timeframes,” he said.
Joel Nana Kontchou, General Manager of Eneo Cameroon, said: "The timely commissioning of this thermal power plant is the fruit of the partnership established with Aggreko and we look forward to strengthening it in order to maintain the exceptional performance of our power plants when we need them.
“Our efforts will continue, not only with the installation of renewable power, but also the improvement of the capacity where gas is available.”
This project is part of a broader strategy for Aggreko to partner with Eneo to support development in the region with reliable power using available energy sources and its market-leading diesel and gas generators. The company also has a policy of employing and training a local workforce, wherever possible.
Aggreko is currently providing 1 GW of power across the African continent, including 200 MW of gas-generated power to the Ivory Coast and 45 MW of gas-generated power to Gabon.
Aggreko has the largest fleet of industry-leading power generation equipment in the world, which runs on diesel, gas, HFO and renewable fuel sources.
It recently launched its Next Generation Gas fuel efficient generators, which were developed in partnership with Jenbacher, to provide reliable, environmentally-friendly and more cost-effective power to customers.
