Keeping hospital doors open during an HVAC upgrade
A large New York City hospital with a level I trauma center and patient care of 25,000 people each year, needed to upgrade its existing HVAC system without a major disruption to patient care.
Air temperature needed to be tightly controlled to keep equipment working effectively and to prevent cross-contamination, so when it became clear its cooling system would need to go offline for a major upgrade, the hospital needed a reliable backup to tide it over without compromising patient health and safety.

A tailored cooling system that could handle redundancy
The hospital’s cooling needs fell into the ‘critical’ category, so we knew we couldn’t afford to take any risks. A standard temporary replacement just wouldn’t cut it.
Instead, we carefully assessed site conditions and devised an installation made up of 1,500 tons of water-cooled chillers. These were powered by low-emission generators that were quiet enough to avoid disturbing patients. We also supplied pumps and cabling, and to complete the package, our remote monitoring team kept an eye on fuel levels.
