Cooling thousands of spectators for vital playoffs
The Minnesota Lynx women’s basketball team reached the playoffs and needed a venue to host them. Hometown Williams Arena was the ideal location, but at 90 years old, the old place fell short of expectations.
The Women’s National Basketball Association requires spectator temperatures of between 61 and 71°F. The iconic arch-ceilinged venue was built in the late 1920s and had no air conditioning, so they looked to Aggreko to come up with a cool idea.

The venue had seven permanent air handles, so we linked them to our 200 ton chillers outside the stadium. We also supplied 12 more 120 ton air handlers to push the cold air into the building ductwork, through 220 sections of insulated ducts.
We installed three 1.5 MW generators (with external fuel tanks) to meet the additional power demands of the project.
