Keeping output levels up during coker outage
A scheduled six-week turnaround meant the refinery’s coker would be out of action, which would greatly affect the plant’s huge daily output. The team needed a solution for maintaining production levels so the plant wouldn’t have to shut down.

Target temperature of vacuum tower bottoms (VTB)
Install heat exchangers to minimise temperature
Aggreko installed refinery-grade heat exchangers to cool the vacuum tower bottoms (VTB) to a safe temperature so it could be stored. These were used to preheat the coker feed using condensed steam to maximise feed rates before being decommissioned quickly and painlessly once the process was over.

Making sure an outage doesn't leave you high and dry
Production continued during the turnaround
The VTB was cooled to a successful storage temperature while the upstream units were able to continue functioning as normal during the entire outage. This saved the refinery a hefty economic loss and meant they could maintain their huge daily output.
