The challenge
Provide power to help a cement manufacturer keep up with demand
A construction boom is a boon for a cement company – as long as they have enough power to keep up with demand. It was a problem for the Union Cement Company (UCC) in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The region was growing fast, which put a strain on the local utility. Load shedding – the practice of shutting off power to portions of the grid during peak periods – was common.
How could UCC increase cement production when power to their plant was so unreliable? Plus, as it expanded its facilities, how could it power up new sites? We had the answer.

The solution
An initial 10 MW power package with 10 MW added as the business grew
When the local grid is deficient, our temporary power is perfect. It’s a great way to get much-needed power to industrial areas, fast. Two weeks after UCC contacted us, we had a 10 MW rental power package fully installed and commissioned.
Two months later, we installed another 10 MW because UCC’s business – and with it, their power needs – had grown. It was a case of more power, more capacity, more production, more profits.

The impact
Our reliable power helped boost UCC’s cement production
With construction continuing apace in Ras Al Khaimah, demand for cement was skyrocketing. Our speedy power delivery meant UCC could very quickly boost production targets to meet this growing demand. As their business grew, UCC was no longer dependent on patchy grid power. They had the confidence to scale up cement production, knowing they had just the right amount of power – and our support – behind them.
“The power package provided by Aggreko ensured that we had the power we needed to meet our production targets. We have been very pleased by both the professionalism and skill of the Aggreko team.”
