Emergency rental heaters

Let’s talk about real example of heater application. When a large Midwestern refinery was affected after a deep freeze upon the plant, its series of butane hold too much water. When they opened the valve to move butane from the spheres to the gasoline blending area they found that the valve had been damaged due to a 10°F frozen-solid line upstream of the valve.

Butane was unable to be transported and operators realized this issue existed in multiple locations. Refinery operations were risked to be backed down – potentially causing major operational and financial consequences. 

Within three days, the Aggreko Process Services (APS) engineers met with the onsite management team presented their proposed solution alleviating any permitting and MOC issues, and delivered equipment for immediate installation. We provided a complete package of 200 kW generator, 150 kW heater, and 8,000 cubic feet per minute blower. While the heater could have generated 300°F air, the system was run at 100°F to avoid rapid metal expansion that would certainly cause future damage. The electrically-heated air was powered by a low-emission generator, which thawed the ice, allowing the product to be pumped to the gasoline blending area.

The installation was supported by Aggreko Remote Monitoring (ARM) service which monitored the equipment 24 hours a day from our Remote Operations Center.
