Temporary power to facilitate repairs and upgrades to a major oil refinery
The modern refining industry is one of the high-tech sectors of the Russian economy it’s crucial to repair and upgrade equipment to meet demand, reduce costs, and improve reliability.
Refineries perform complex technological operations within a continuous production cycle so any power outages or accidents could result in losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars a day, as well as cause severe damage to the environment.
The customers refinery is one of the largest in southern Russia, improving efficiency was a key priority in the modernisation of the plant.
Work was required to help reduce the burden on the environment and increase productivity and operational readiness. To allow them to safely carry out the necessary repairs and upgrades, the customer required a temporary power solution that could be quickly installed and meet all their requirements to keep operating normally throughout the project.

Power per generator
Complete power solution installed within just 4 weeks
Aggreko built a power centre with a capacity of 4 MVA that was able to not only replace the power taken offline for maintenance but also provide all the power required for the entire plant.
The power centre consisted of four 1,000 KVA generators that were manufactured at Aggreko’s own plant in Scotland.
These were housed in 20-foot ISO containers and equipped with means of synchronisation and load distribution that made their performance virtually limitless within the complex solutions of enormous power.
Thanks to Aggreko being a global, fast-response organisation, we were able to have the temporary power solution in operation within just 4 weeks of the contract being agreed.
the aggreko difference
Focusing on the power, while you focus on production
Safe, reliable power allowed maintenance work to boost efficiency, productivity, and profits
Thanks to Aggreko’s modern equipment, the temporary power centre worked as planned for the entire 2 months of the project.
The refinery continued to operate as normal and avoided any costly outages. And once the repairs and upgrades of the plant were completed, the oil refinery was able to take advantage of the increased efficiency to increase productivity and profits.
