Our business was initially founded on diesel-generated electricity. We soon added gas, then HFO and now solar-diesel hybrid power, to provide power using whichever resource is available.

It’s because there is no one-size-fits-all answer to power needs that Aggreko has developed its portfolio of power generation equipment that provides this fuel flexibility.

Renewable energy is environmentally-friendly and even though it can sometimes be expensive, it would be the preferred option for many locations with or without access to permanent grid power and whether in developed or developing areas of the world.

But unlike diesel and gas, renewable power is intermittent, which creates unacceptable power instability.

Gas is also a clean and cost-effective power source, but it’s not available everywhere and laying distribution infrastructure over long distances can make it unviable for many.

Diesel is easy to transport and readily available, which makes it a natural choice for power generation. However, diesel prices constitute a high proportion of operating costs for industries located in remote off-grid areas. It is also susceptible to market fluctuations, making costs difficult to predict, which is why in some areas of the developing world, HFO is the most viable option.

Our mobile, modular business model means there is no costly up-front investment, so capital is retained for business operations. Modular power is scalable, meaning we provide the capacity that is needed, quickly and efficiently. So when needs change we can accommodate by ramping capacity up or down, or swapping out diesel generation for gas, should that become available at a later date.

And Aggreko generators, regardless of the fuel they run on, are the best in class. We own and operate the largest power generation fleet, from more than 200 locations across the world, so we’re able to get the right equipment to where it’s needed quickly – sometimes within hours.

All our products are designed to our own exacting specifications, in tandem with leading engine manufacturers, and built at our state-of-the-art manufacturing and technology centre near Glasgow, Scotland.

The Aggreko Technology Centre of Excellence is co-located with Ricardo, a world-class engine research and development consultancy, near Brighton to drive innovation. This has ensured that we always have access to the most efficient and cleanest engine technology in our markets.

We also have established links with researchers and students in leading universities, to challenge the status quo, question current thinking and to pursue alternatives, whatever they may be.

Aggreko’s modular power plays a major role in supporting power capacity across off-grid locations around the world and when combined with renewables or gas, provides a holistic strategy to create a consistent supply that makes power shortages a thing of the past.
