Aggreko Supports Families in Wake of Tropical Cyclone Idai in Partnership with ShelterBox
Earlier this year, tropical cyclone Idai caused widespread destruction to homes, communities and critical infrastructure in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and southern parts of Malawi. In response to the natural disaster, Aggreko, the world-leading provider of mobile and modular power, temperature control and energy services, provided almost 130 families in southern Malawi with ShelterKits, as part of its three-year partnership with the disaster relief charity ShelterBox.
The cyclone caused continuous rainfall in the southern part of the country which led to widespread flooding. The flooding resulted in the destruction of homes and businesses, impacting thousands of families across the country.
The ShelterKits provided by Aggreko have helped impacted families to build strong shelters that give protection from the elements, water filters, mosquito nets to protect them from flood-related diseases, solar lights, blankets and water carriers. The kits have given around 650 people the essentials they need to help them rebuild their lives following the cyclone.
John Lewis, Aggreko’s Managing Director for Africa, said: “The devastation caused by cyclone Idai has been heart-breaking to witness, and we are glad to have been able to help those affected in Malawi through our partnership with ShelterBox. The ShelterKits which have been given to more than 130 families can help them to rebuild their lives after the destruction caused by this cyclone.”
