Aggreko to Drive The Shell Houston Open
HOUSTON (April 4, 2008) –
Aggreko LLC, the world’s leading supplier of temporary power
and temperature control solutions, is again providing large-scale
power generation and temperature control for the 60th
Shell Houston Open Golf Tournament, hosted by the Houston Golf
Association at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course. This
year’s tournament is taking place March 31-April 6 and marks the
15th year of the Aggreko / Shell Houston Open
relationship.
In addition to powering all leader boards and
scoreboards, Aggreko’s team of professionals will be responsible
for providing power distribution and climate control infrastructure
to more than 30 venues throughout the course, including the
double-decker Bayou Terrace viewing area at the 17th
hole, the Executive Suites skyboxes on the 17th green
and the Lakeside Skyboxes on the 18th hole.
“Powering a golf tournament means creating an
atmosphere that is respectful to the participants and won’t
distract from the play,” said Rick Strole, Business Development
Specialist for Aggreko Event Services. “The organizers of the
tournament know that Aggreko provides the quietest and most
unobtrusive equipment, which keeps the spectators comfortable and
the event running smoothly.”
The 2008 Shell Houston Open will again serve
as the lead-in tournament before The Masters. The Houston Golf
Association has been conducting PGA Tour events since 1946, making
Houston’s tournament the 10th oldest on the schedule.
Past champions include golf notables Vijay Singh and Curtis
Strange, both of whom share the top of the list, with three
victories each.
Powering an event of this magnitude requires,
literally, tons of Aggreko equipment and ample manpower,
including:
- Power generation that will produce enough
electricity to power 100,000 average homes
- Appropriate cooling equipment plus all
internal distribution, which includes 4 miles of cable
- A dedicated crew of Aggreko technicians
during the preparation of the event to install and operate the
equipment to insure flawless operation
Three weeks prior to the tournament, Aggreko
began the installation process to prepare for the players and
attendees. After the tournament Aggreko will then dismantle
all the equipment in under a week.
Aggreko has a long history of providing power
to high-profile events, including presidential inaugurations,
several national sporting events, the Olympic Games and the Daytona
500.
