Aggreko Helps a Major Refinery Maintain
Production During Seasonal Shutdown
The Customer Challenge
A major refinery needed a way to maintain desired production
rates during a seasonal shutdown of its fluidized catalytic
cracking unit (FCC) for inspections and repairs. The shutdown would
require the plant to reduce the charge rate to the crude unit
supplying the FCC’s heavy gas oil (HGO) feed, threatening the
plant’s productivity.
The Aggreko Solution
Aggreko Process Services
(APS) engineers met with refinery officials and subsequently
identified a need for approximately 30% more cooling. APS proposed
a fully integrated design, engineering and installation solution
designed to address the specific needs of the facility.
Aggreko’s solution managed the safety and
environmental risk associated with the excessive HGO feed and
allowed the refinery to maintain operation despite the
shutdown.
The Benefit to the Customer
The refinery’s Lead Design Engineer commented,
“We operated the system for the first time at 30,000 BPD process
flow rate and achieved an outlet temperature of 180ºF, which is
consistent with the process design. I am particularly impressed
with the quality of the installation and the dedication of
Aggreko’s field service personnel. Because of the quick, competent
response by Aggreko, we will be able to capture a profit
opportunity that far outweighs the project cost.”
