Rome, Italy - 22nd September 2023: Aggreko’s temporary energy solutions are set to power the upcoming 44th Ryder Cup. Major sporting events are inherently energy intensive, but Aggreko is delivering the latest sustainable technologies, as well as scaling existing ones, to make this Ryder Cup as energy efficient as possible.

Aggreko will introduce energy provided by five solar arrays and the use of battery energy storage – the first time that both have been used at a Ryder Cup event.

The Aggreko technology will ‘Set The Stage’ for one of the most prestigious golfing events. This marks the fifth time that Aggreko and the Ryder Cup have partnered in Europe, with the 2023 event taking place 25th September to 1st October at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome. This collaboration with Ryder Cup supports their Green Drive initiative – a strengthened commitment towards sustainability.

All temporary energy solutions will be supplied by Aggreko in on-course and off course areas. Multiple facilities will be run on solar power including the main compound, powered by a 75 kW solar unit. The main buggy charging point at the event will be powered all-day by the new 60 kW deployable solar array.

Furthermore, Aggreko has partnered with leading global hospitality brand, Hilton, to provide sustainable energy supply to the exclusive ‘A Stay on the Green by Hilton’ hotel room, overlooking the 10th green at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. The overnight experience by Hilton, powered by Aggreko, gives guests the once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy signature hospitality and a stay like no other, only yards from the course, powered by a battery unit with 5 kW solar arrays.

Aggreko ran an internal ‘Protect The Stage’ competition for children of Aggreko employees to design artwork that will feature on the exterior of the room. With entries from around the world, the winner was picked out as Emilie Ralphson, from England. A golf ball world sat on a tee, the design shows two contrasting versions of our future planet and is appropriately named, ‘TIME FOR CHANGE’.

Richard Atkinson, Ryder Cup Director said: “The Ryder Cup is one of the biggest spectacles in sport and we need a reliable power source to make sure we deliver a seamless experience.
