What is a virtual pipeline?
A virtual pipeline replaces a physical gas pipeline by transporting gas as LNG via sea, road, or rail to the point of use. Where no pipeline or grid connection exists, LNG or CNG virtual pipelines allow natural gas to be the main fuel for power generation using modular generators. They can also serve as backup fuel when pipeline capacity is limited.
For oil fields and industrial utility locations without pipeline access wanting to switch from diesel to gas, the virtual pipeline mimics their current supply method. For those with pipeline access but facing supply issues, the virtual power plant supplements pipeline gas using stored natural gas and the same delivery system, offering advantages over diesel.
