Aggreko’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) project was developed to deliver electricity and drive economic and social development for 26 communities in the Amazonas region.
Develop a hybrid energy solution for Caiambé.
Reduced fuel consumption by approximately 130,000 liters and 405 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year
The Challenge
Aggreko’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) project was developed to provide electricity and promote economic, sustainable, and social development for 26 communities across the Amazonas region, where dense vegetation, river access routes, and vast distances make the installation of conventional power transmission networks unfeasible.
To reduce the IPP’s CO₂ emissions, it was essential to hybridize the power plant by integrating renewable energy, ensuring a reliable and sustainable power supply to remote communities.
This approach helps preserve one of the world’s most environmentally significant regions while continuing to deliver the electricity that has transformed local lives over recent years.
The Solution
The first fully hybrid power plant in the interior of the Amazonas region, an innovative initiative within Brazil’s isolated power system, marked an important milestone for Aggreko, the electricity sector, and the approximately 3,000 residents of Caiambé.
The plant combines three technologies, thermal power, solar energy, and battery energy storage, creating an intelligent and automated system that self-manages to ensure optimal energy efficiency.
The Impact
Our commitment goes beyond mitigating negative impacts. We are dedicated to reducing the effects of our operations on the world and accelerating our efforts to secure a sustainable future for people, our partners, and the planet.
In addition to providing efficient energy infrastructure and supporting the social and economic development of Caiambé, every piece of data and technical adjustment from this project serves as a foundation for designing the next phases, which can be replicated in other regions.
This is how we aim to make a difference: by benefiting communities through our energy solutions while reaffirming our commitment to renewable technologies that help reduce our emissions.
