Biogas and landfill gas are gases formed by the decomposition of organic matter. Although they come from different sources, they are both rich in methane (CH4) and are non-fossil fuels that can be used for power generation:

• Biogas: The main product resulting from the transformation of organic food waste in anaerobic digesters. It contains between 50-70% methane and fewer contaminants.
• Landfill Gas: A by-product of the decomposition of organic matter in landfills. It contains between 40-60% methane.

• Continuous renewable energy: Unlike solar and wind sources, biogas provides continuous and predictable generation, ensuring greater energy security.
• Low-cost storage: It can be stored efficiently, either as feedstock or compressed gas.
• Grid stability: It acts as a balancing mechanism for the intermittency of wind and solar sources, providing stability to the power grid.
• Negative carbon footprint: It is not only a low-emission source, but also helps reduce the pollution that would occur if the waste were not put to use.
• Income generation: In addition to energy, the residual production of biofertilisers creates extra value.
