Get enough power to 39 major venues
Powering up an Olympic Games is a monumental task. As well as lighting the Olympic Stadium and providing power for the opening and closing ceremonies, temporary power is needed for security, field-of-play, broadcast and concessions. The local power grid couldn't quite manage it all.
So the London Olympic Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) appointed us as the Official Temporary Energy Services Provider for the 2012 Games – and the challenge was set.

Venues getting power
Environmentally-friendly power systems
Following two and a half years of planning, we were ready to power up the London Olympics. We provided 260 MW prime and/or standby power across all 39 venues, and primary and secondary electrical distribution across all venues. Where possible, our systems supplemented grid supply.
We have always taken pride in manufacturing equipment that exceeds emissions requirements. As an extra step for the Games, in areas where our equipment was close to spectators or competitors, our generators were fitted with diesel particulate filters to reduce emissions. We used bio-fuel generators where possible, too.

40 days of faultless temporary power
The London Olympics was the biggest deployment of temporary power for a single sporting event in UK history. And it all went off without a hitch.
All venues had plenty of power for the 40 days of competition. From the athletes competing in brightly lit venues, to the millions of people tuning in to cheer them on from their living rooms, countless experiences and memories of the Games were powered by us.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Aggreko team on your excellent contribution to the Games. Ultimately it was a fantastic team effort and Aggreko played an important part in our success.”
