Cement kiln gets safer, cooler working conditions

  • The Challenge

Create a cool environment for employees exposed to the kiln’s heat

  • The Solution

Innovative cooling system allowing employees to safely monitor the kiln

  • The Impact

Safer conditions and vastly improved productivity in work area

Client:Cement manufacturer

Location:New Jersey, USA

Sectors:Manufacturing

The Challenge

Find a way to battle soaring temperatures

Cement kiln operators were being exposed to 130°F+ temperatures, putting them at serious risk of heat stress. With no power sources in the area, and the extra issue that any equipment had to be at least 145 ft away, cooling presented a huge hurdle.

The Solution

Cool airflows, controlled from a distance

To tackle the problem, we used a ‘force cooling’ method. This combined a chiller and air handler package, which increased static pressure and let us flow in cool air from 145 ft away. This shielded employees from exposure to the excessive heat from the rotating kiln.

"A rapid and precise solution was what the plant needed to maintain production levels and ensure a safe environment for its workers."

The Impact

Workers safe from heat - and more productive

Employees could now safely monitor the cement plant’s kiln, even in the summer months, at a safe and comfortable temperature. They were no longer at risk - and the improved conditions meant fewer safety-related penalties and greater productivity, too!.
