Aggreko extends relationship with R&A to AIG Women's Open
Aggreko has become the official Energy Transition Supplier of the AIG Women’s Open, which will take place from 30 July to 3 August at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Course in Wales.
This partnership showcases Aggreko’s growing role in supporting major global sporting events with cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions. It is an extension of Aggreko's long-running relationship with The R&A, which already supplies equipment to The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush and The R&A's Great Britain and Ireland amateur championships.
As the Championship works to reduce its environmental footprint, Aggreko will introduce a collection of its greener upgrades that incorporate newer sustainable technologies and techniques onsite at Royal Porthcawl.
The advanced solutions include Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), a plug-and-play system allowing even the most difficult to reach areas of the course to be sustainably powered. The entire Championship will run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and feature a solar array to generate clean energy. Stage V generators will also be in use to maximise performance and reduce emissions.
This supports The R&A’s commitment to staging more sustainable championships and reducing the environmental impact of golf.
Daniel Lightfoot, Director of Sustainable Golf at The R&A, said, “The R&A is dedicated to ensuring a thriving, sustainable future both for the sport and the planet so it is essential that we are creating sustainable championships that have minimal impact on the natural environments that we are visiting. Aggreko has played an important role in the successful delivery of our Championships over the years, and we are pleased that their support will now extend to the AIG Women’s Open.”
Jono Rose, Managing Director at Aggreko Event Services, said, “We are thrilled to partner with the AIG Women’s Open, a premier championship that showcases the pinnacle of women’s golf. At Aggreko, we are committed to providing reliable and sustainable power solutions that ensure the seamless operation of world-class tournaments. We’re also proud to be part of a competition that allows women’s sports to thrive.”
