Aggreko, the world-leading provider of mobile modular power, temperature control and energy services, ENGIE, a global reference in low-carbon energy and services and We Love Green, France's biggest eco-friendly music festival, have joined forces and formalised their collaboration for the 2022 festival, which will be held on 2, 4 and 5 June in the Bois de Vincennes in Paris.

THE STRENGTH OF A COMMON VISION

This partnership was born out of a common desire by Aggreko and We Love Green to set up a campaign of trials and tests with the aim of organising more sustainable events, driven by ever greener energy.

We Love Green and Aggreko share the belief that innovation and technology are essential to achieving their sustainability goals.

For We Love Green, this means continuing to develop its energy mix, a real life-size laboratory and a source of inspiration for major events in France and abroad. For Aggreko, the objective is to set a further milestone on the road to carbon neutrality in all its services by 2050.

SUN, WIND, OILSEED: THE PERFECT COMBINATION FOR A GREENER FESTIVAL

The common thread in this collaboration which started in 2019 is the use of generators powered by biofuels and solar devices. During the festival, the following mix will be implemented:

- 40 SOLAR PANELS that convert sunlight into energy, will power two of the five stages over the 3 days;
- 4 ENERGY STORAGE BATTERIES will manage electricity generation and use;
- BIOFUEL B100, an alternative fuel made from 100% French oilseed that produces low carbon energy.

Renewable Hydrogen: a real turning point in the energy supply of the events sector

A major innovation will complete this year's energy mix and will be the focus of much attention.

For the first time ever, ENGIE will supply 300kg of renewable hydrogen, produced by electrolysis of water from renewable energy to power one of the festival stages.

This hydrogen solution, which generates close to zero CO2 emissions and reduces more than two tons of CO2 in comparison to traditional diesel solutions, will then be converted into electricity by Aggreko to ensure that there is sound and lighting on the stage.

Aggreko will install two generators:

- A 50kVA set with an engine adapted to run on 100% hydrogen, which will power the sound system.
- A 45kVA set, equipped with a 20kW fuel cell, which will power the lights.

For Marie Sabot, director of the festival, “We Love Green is a real innovation laboratory. By offering us new opportunities, Aggreko is making a major contribution to the organisation of more sustainable events driven by ever greener and more innovative energies. The success of the test carried out together on the new green hydrogen generator will be the subject of a precise analysis downstream and will undoubtedly allow for a very fruitful sharing of experience with the entire performing arts and event industry.”

David de Behr, Head of Sales at Aggreko Event Services, Aggreko, underlines the importance of this teamwork: "Our partnership with We Love Green has helped us better understand the application and feasibility of greener technologies for events. We are proud to partner with this pioneering festival and to deliver the most sustainable system so far. We are really excited to see our hydrogen solution being used for the first time at a music festival that shares our values and commitment to sustainability.”

“We are delighted to develop this project which combines innovative technical and regulatory solutions to accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality and to promote the widespread use of renewable hydrogen in the culture and events sector. The operation will allow us to experiment with the real constraints of a festival and to demonstrate the possibility of powering electric loads during challenging conditions”, says Jean-Gabriel Steinmetz, Market activator Hydrogen ENGIE
