Delivering reliable off-grid energy in challenging conditions

Client: NESMA – Aramco Housing Camp

Location: Tanajib, Eastern Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Sectors: Oil and Gas

THE CHALLENGE

Energy for remote worker housing

This oil and gas customer needed a way to provide off-grid energy to a housing camp for its workers, keeping them safe and comfortable while on site.

Their existing MTU generators provided 2 MW of capacity at medium voltage, but they needed another 4 MW to cover all their electricity needs.

This created an extra hurdle, as the additional generators had to synchronise with their existing ones, despite having a different rating, controller, and voltage output.

Compounding the challenge, the site was located in a remote area, in the hottest part of Saudi Arabia.

Fact File

Power supplied 4MW
Generator configuration 6 Pack
Setup voltage requirement 13.8kVA

THE SOLUTION

A unique, specialised, turnkey energy supply

To meet the customer’s energy needs, we designed a completely custom installation comprising six modular generator units.

This raised the customer’s total off-grid capacity to 6 MW. We then configured the generators at the right voltage to match the customer’s output, using a specialised controller and wiring setup to synchronise their DSE controller with our own DIEF controller.

THE IMPACT

Cost savings and a simpler setup

The concept designed and delivered by our team provided the customer with a reliable off-grid source of energy, rightsized to their needs, which would last as long as they needed it. What’s more, it offered a streamlined solution that minimised the number of generators required.

This meant the customer avoided having to set up a complete power plant, saving them time and money to use on other business-critical projects.
