What role can gas- battery hybrids play?
Awareness of the impact of global warming has led to an acceleration of the energy transition. With this, the advent of intermittent renewables has ushered in a brand-new set of challenges that stakeholders had never faced before. Technologies and sources of energy may be glorified one day and fall out of grace the next. Gas power is one of those, but through the intelligent deployment of battery storage, we believe it can make a resurgence.
Whilst batteries have an important role to play in making renewable generation more reliable and cost effective, and can be used to great benefit, this should not be an either/or debate. Instead, we believe that there is a strong case for batteries and gas generation to work together in hybrid solutions.
In isolation, gas and batteries are facing challenges, both from a cost and regulatory perspective. But by combining both, the benefits of both technologies can be realised, and even increased, creating a solution which is greater than the sum of its parts.
In this article, we explore some of the ways in which hybrid gas-battery solutions have helped our customers to reduce costs and emissions, and benefit from a more reliable power supply. Ultimately, we believe that combining batteries with gas will go a long way to making cheaper, cleaner and more reliable power more accessible as the energy transition continues.
