Helping Tanzania during drought

The Challenge
Get Tanzania on its feet again during a drought
Two-thirds of Tanzania’s power comes from hydropower dams. So when a persistent drought drastically reduced inflow to these dams, electricity production plummeted. The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) started rationing power, which threatened to further exacerbate the social impact of the drought.
TANESCO also implemented emergency measures to avert a prolonged power crisis. As part of this, it was our job to design a natural gas-fired system to support the national grid.

The Solution
Delivery of power ahead of schedule
Given the urgency of the situation, we knew our rental equipment would fit the bill perfectly. It is always available at short notice, and easy to set up at any site. We designed and supplied a 40 MW natural gas power system – including a fully stocked on-site store full of spares and consumables – in two phases of 20 MW each.
The whole thing was up and running 10 days ahead of schedule, and came with 24-hour support.
