When extreme heat strikes, modular cooling keeps production on track

Qatar’s scorching summers, with temperatures soaring above 40°C and humidity nearing 80%, activated a strict heat-stress safety protocol on site. This included colour-coded flags, with black indicating a complete stop of work. Even under green flags, workers were limited to 50 minutes of work per hour with mandatory breaks.

While critical for worker safety, these measures significantly restricted working hours and slowed down progress on the North Field Expansion Project. Already facing delays due to supply chain hurdles, the client urgently required cooling solutions in key operational areas, including pipe racks, confined tanks, and the production facilities, to maintain productivity and avoid further slippage in the timeline.

The project also posed installation challenges due to tight spaces and layout restrictions, particularly in confined zones, where fewer units could be deployed despite higher cooling demands.

Aggreko conducted an in-depth site assessment and designed a tailored cooling solution that accounted for harsh ambient conditions of DB 48°C / WB 34°C and logistical constraints.

The HSE-compliant solution provided cooling for critical infrastructure, including pipe racks, storage tanks, and the production facility, ensuring continuous workflow.
