Powering an oil production site to avoid downtime

Client: ExxonMobil

Location: Nigeria

Sectors: Oil and Gas

The Challenge

Bridge power gap during turbine downtime

Global oil and gas company, ExxonMobil has two 10 MW turbines on their oil production site in Nigeria.

One of their turbines suffered a breakdown and parts for the repair weren’t readily available. That left ExxonMobil with a power shortfall if they chose to wait for the parts.

They reviewed their options and a short-term power solution seemed to be the ideal answer. Now all they needed to do was choose a reliable, experienced partner.

The Solution

Reliable power to guarantee power supply

Aggreko were chosen to bridge the power gap and we devised a solution that included 10 MW of turn-key power. This comprised the installation, commissioning operation and maintenance.

This solution ensured the customer could find the time to repair the turbine without suffering any production downtime caused by a power failure and shortfall.

The Impact

ExxonMobil enjoys uninterruptible power

The flexibility of using multiple smaller modular Aggreko power units instead of just one turbine, has given the customer greater redundancy and enabled them to avoid any more total loss of power incidents that impact their production schedule meaning they stay on track to deliver on revenue and profit.
