THE CHALLENGE

Provide 3.5 MW of power and distribution to a massive, outdoor, star-studded event

The star-studded music festival has been a tremendous success since its launch in 2013 – one that one that is keenly awaited by fans each year. The 7th edition of the event was going to see performances by international artists meaning that a reliable partner for successful power delivery and logistical aptitude was high.

Having worked with Aggreko on several events in the past, Done Events were one of our legacy clients, who knew we were the perfect choice for an event of this magnitude.

An event of this scale has its own challenges, one of the trickiest factors was the logistics and transportation of our units. An outdoor area covered with grass posed a huge problem as vehicles were not allowed to drive directly to the event site. This was a particularly difficult situation for delivery of our power units and technicians.

Furthermore, we had to work alongside several other suppliers and contractors, all struggling to reach the venue within the limited time allocated for deliveries. A logistical challenge ensuring meticulous planning was key.

That’s where our expertise in the events sector came into play. We knew what was needed to make this event a success without having to compromise on the client’s demands.

THE SOLUTION

Modular power with full redundancy to cover the entire venue

To bring this show to life, we needed to cover every section of the event site – and with the right power requirement. Our team worked closely with the organisers to ensure that every necessity was catered for and ensured that no damage occurred to the outdoor area of the site.

Aggreko designed and installed a 1.5 MW system using three 350 kVA units for the stage set up, two 350 kVA sync pair for VIP platform structure and two 200 kVA sync pairs on either side of the venue for food and beverage stalls.

The power from the gensets were distributed throughout the venue with cables that underwent test and inspection in accordance with BS7909 regulations, ensuring electrical safety standards were met and delivered.

To ensure there were no issues during the event, Aggreko supplied two technicians, general labour and Aggreko project supervisor who worked around the clock, pre-festival and during rehearsals, leaving no room for error.
