Powering offshore wind while protecting oceans

Renewables are continuing to shape the world’s energy markets, with the share from offshore wind generation increasing year-on-year. Enabling safer and cleaner construction is essential. Which is where bubble curtain solutions really make a difference.

As the turbine’s huge piles are driven into the seabed, the bubble curtain reduces noise emissions below the surface of the sea, safeguarding marine life.

Jaeger Maritime Solutions asked for our expertise to help support the construction of a new offshore wind farm, off the coast of France. Oil-free air compressors were needed to attach to hoses on their vessel, delivering effective underwater noise mitigation through a big bubble curtain solution.

Aggreko and Jaeger Maritime Solutions are both committed to helping to protect precious marine eco systems and habitats while supporting the move to a more sustainable, energy future. 

This was a job for our Greener Upgrades. Stage V 100% oil-free air compressors were loaded onto our client’s vessel, alongside a single 60 kVA Stage V generator to power the bubble curtain hose winch. 

The compressors were attached to hoses to deliver clean air at the precise volume and pressure required. All while minimising harmful emissions. 
For added resilience, our equipment was provided with Aggreko Remote Monitoring, enabling us to monitor our equipment offshore, ensuring maximum efficiency.

Our Greener Upgrades solution successfully powered the bubble curtain, while cutting harmful emissions and reducing the risk to marine life. Through remote monitoring, we minimised fuel usage, providing insightful data to help inform future projects.
