Extra power to meet load demands from largest ore stacker in the world
BHP's US$3.6 billion South Flank iron ore mine under construction in Western Australia is one of the most technologically advanced mine projects in the world. Not only is it projected to deliver around 80 Mt of ore a year, it will harness the latest and greatest innovations in the field to allow the 600 operational staff to ensure productivity.
This will include autonomous-ready haul trucks and the world’s largest rail-mounted stacker.

The Solution
Devise rapidly deployed power station to ensure new mine project stayed on track
Our extensive experience in the mining sector and our presence in the Pilbara allowed us to devise a solution that would meet the stacker temporary power demands and deploy it rapidly.
We designed, engineered, installed and then commissioned a temporary power station that bridged the power gap for the new technology the mine required – and the installation was completed within weeks.
The solution consisted of 3 MW of power, supplied by our reliable, mobile and modular diesel generators, with enough fuel tanks on site to allow for continuous operation and contingencies. A 33 kV transformer was also part of the power package.

Our ability to respond quickly to our customers’ demands, coupled with the modular nature of our equipment, meant that our customer kept all milestones within sight.
It also allowed for a degree of flexibility. So if power demands ramp up or down, BHP has peace of mind that the solution can adapt to any change in circumstance.
The end result is that one commissioning of key yard machinery at of the biggest mining projects in the world can continue uninterrupted.
