Commissioning Philippines’s biggest onshore wind farm

Stretching across two towns, in the coastal barangays of Balaoi and Caunayan, the wind farm owned by ACEN’s unit Bayog Wind Power Corp has a capacity of 160 MW. With 32 wind turbines that will generate 5 MW of electricity, the wind farm’s electricity will power the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Laoag City through a 60-kilometer long, 115kV high voltage transmission line.

In its construction phase, Bayog Wind Power Corp required reliable auxiliary power for their instrumentation, controls and elevators on each tower. Since the Balaoi and Caunayan windfarms were situated in a remote mountain range area, extra safety precautions had to be taken during lifting and unloading of equipment. Voltage fluctuations in the morning due to unfavourable weather conditions such as high moisture, low temperatures and high humidity also posed a challenge to the operation of power generators.

After analysing the potential challenges, the remote area might face, our technicians developed a solution according to Bayog Wind Power Corp’s requirements and provided technical advice to overcome the voltage fluctuation issue. We also provided technical advice for the planning, delivery, commissioning and servicing of the generators. 

Our reliable generators and dedicated on-site personnel ensured the successful commissioning of all 32 wind turbine towers amidst tricky conditions and facilitated the supply of clean energy to the national grid.
