Critical generator failure was preventing a bulk iron ore carrier from safely entering port to collect cargo. Aggreko provided an emergency solution by supplying and installing an on-deck power station. It consisted of four synchronized 320kVA generators, enabling the vessel to be back in operation and safely in harbour within just eight days.

A bulk iron ore carrier was waiting off the coast of Pilbara (Western Australia) when disaster struck.

A vital marine diesel generator broke down. Without it, the ship couldn’t safely enter port to collect its cargo – which left the carrier and its crew stranded.

The crew needed a quick generator hire solution. Or the ship would be forced to return to its home port in the Philippines empty-handed.

Emergency diesel generators arrive fast

We sprang into action, providing the ship with the emergency diesel generators it needed to reach port safely.

Every hour wasted meant another delay to the ship’s schedule – and more money on the line. So, we had to harness the full power of our fleet, our expertise, and our logistical know-how to get the job done fast.

We provided an on-deck power station consisting of four synchronised 320kVA generators, a cable package, and associated fuel hardware. All delivered via tugboat – and installed by a team of experts, flown in via helicopter to get the equipment running.

Once the power station was in action, the ship had the coverage it needed to reach Port Hedland safely, load, and return to open water.
