Power for construction of Taiwan’s 900 MW offshore wind farm
Power for cable installation works
Client: Van Oord
Location: Changhua County, Taiwan
Sectors: Utilities
The challenge
Supplying temporary power for 2 x 1500 kVA construction of an offshore wind farm
Situated between 35km and 60km off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan, Ørsted’s Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms holds a total capacity of 900MW. With 111 of 8 MW turbines installed on jacket foundations, the wind farm will produce sufficient renewable energy to meet the demand of nearly 1 million Taiwanese households annually.
In its construction phase, Ørsted’s contractor, Van Oord, required plenty of temporary power for their cable trencher. Without sufficient and reliable power, the installation and burial of the 111 inter array cables in between the wind turbines and the 3 export cables to the substations would be delayed.
