Oil platform on horizon

Mobile, modular power for the construction, Hook-Up and Commissioning of a major North Sea platform complex

Client: Major oil and gas operator

Location: Singapore and North Sea, UK

Sectors: Oil and Gas

The challenge

Power huge new platform complex during its construction, Hook-Up and Commissioning

A complete power package was required for operating a remote offshore platform. Aggreko’s challenge was to design, project manage and operate a temporary power solution until permanent power could be bought online.

The first step would be to provide a temporary power supply during the onshore construction phase in Singapore. The complex features bridge linked platforms with temporary power required on each.

The customer needed a solution from start-to-end of the project until the operational phase. From the conceptual stages through to development, the customer needed a reliable engineering partner to design all of their temporary power needs.

Project fact file

Diesel generators 3 x 1500kVA
Total power provided 4.4 MVA
Transformer 1 x 2500kVA

The solution

Multi-regional collaboration through meticulous planning and execution of a custom engineered temporary power solution

Being a truly global partner Aggreko have permanent locations in more than 80 countries around the world. For this project, engagement between our Singapore and UK team ensured that all stages of the project were understood by those delivering the service.

Even from the design phase of this project, Aggreko were able to demonstrate a firm understanding of the customer requirements needed during Tow Out and Commissioning. This included planning for a dynamic commissioning schedule in line with the customer predicted loads.

Aggreko delivered 3 x 1500 kVA Diesel generators running at 690 V, alongside a 2500 kVA transformer (690 V/11.5 kV), also including fire and gas detection and suppression panels to ensure immediate shutoff in event of gas being detected in the vicinity of our power generators.

Aggreko performed an inhouse factory acceptance test to ensure the customer had full confidence in our equipment before it was loaded onto the platform.

The impact

Reliable power delivered on time and safely to ensure project milestones were met

The power plant was fully commissioned by the Aggreko team in Singapore and then operated by UK operations team when it reached the North Sea.

Collaboration between our regional teams, the customer and their subcontractors ensured the project was delivered safely, on time and on budget.

Through the use of Aggreko remote monitoring our team were able to identify and resolve potential problems before they caused unplanned maintenance and shutdowns.
