Provide commissioning power to avoid costly delay in the installation of customer captive power plant

The customer’s refinery, which was being constructed in India, had experienced delays in the installation of the 100 MW CPP (captive power plant) during late 2011.

There was an unreliable and limited grid power available and commissioning of the refinery could not begin without overcoming this. There were also financial implications involved if the customer were unable to commission and commence operations on time.

They needed 53 MW of reliable, mobile, modular and quick power solutions for the refinery commissioning – and quickly.

The solution

A 53 MW power package at 6.6kV

The Aggreko team studied the processes and understood the exact requirement of various equipment / accessories.

The customised solution of 53 MW at 6.6kV was designed, mobilised and commissioned in a short span of about 60 days.

As a specialist of mobile, modular and turnkey power solutions, Aggreko ensured smooth and uninterrupted power supply at the site, with a technical team available on-site 24/7.

An initial contract was for six months and was then extended until CPP was ready. Extra resources were pulled-in to ensure that our installation was completed in the stipulated time-frame and met customer’s expectations.

The impact

Customer enjoyed early production and avoided potential penalties

Aggreko’s detailed understanding of the refinery set-up, power circuits and supply meant that the power was sourced from three different load centres. The package flexibility allowed for part of the package to be LV (415V) and part of package to be HV (6.6kV)

Quick, reliable multi-MW power packages helped the customer to start production as scheduled and avoid huge losses in profit margins.
