Curo Construction Limited called on our expertise during their ambitious refurbishment project at 14 St John’s Lane. The project involves the renovation of a six-storey office building, incorporating a single-storey vertical extension for a fifth floor. With party walls and several residential properties in close proximity; management of noise, vibration, air quality and carbon are project key considerations.

When work was required on the electricity meter removing mains electricity power for 5 days, Aggreko were called to help ensure the project stayed sufficiently powered and within expected timeframe. We were able to provide a solution that was minimal impact on the environment and local community, supporting Curo’s sustainability aims.

The Solution

A quiet, zero emission Battery Energy Storage System solution

During our initial consultation we suggested a Stage V generator and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This would be a quiet, low carbon and fuel-efficient solution ideal for the built-up area, however after an initial site visit, it was identified that space wouldn’t allow this. 

The space would however house two batteries.
This insight made us rethink and we engineered a solution of 2 x 45/55 BESS, that would be connected together and located within the inside of the ground floor of the building.

The result

Minimal delays and local impact

Motor start applications sustain large amounts of power, however the battery solution provided sufficient power for Curo to run the welfare facilities and power tools over the 4 days, without costly delays or impact to the project deadline.

In fact, it was so efficient at the end of the 4 days, 20% of the battery was still left. The project team at Curo commented they were pleased with its performance and would definitely use this product again. This had the benefit of reduced noise and vibration and supported good air quality for local residents. It also supports Curo’s net zero by 2040 target, by reducing carbon emissions from fuel use.
